KEY EXPERIENCE
Eric started his professional career in April 1996 when he joined Coopers & Lybrand, which later merged into PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he acquired six years of consultancy experience. In August 2004, Eric set up his own consultancy firm, PluriConseil Ltd.
Well known in the financial services industry, Eric was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of First City Bank (renamed Bank One) from November 2005 to February 2008, and then the Chairman of the Development Bank of Mauritius from January 2009 to July 2010. During that period, he also served as a non-executive director of State Insurance Company of Mauritius (SICOM) and of Airports of Mauritius Ltd. Previously, he had worked as credit analyst at the State Bank of Mauritius in 1999, was an Adviser to the Ministry of Finance in 2000, and joined Capital Markets Brokers as business development manager in 2001. He is currently an independent non-executive director of Cim Foreign Equity Fund.
Eric has a wide range of experience in economic studies, financial analysis, market research, corporate policy review, project management, corporate relationship and organisational communication. He has provided consultancy services to a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, commerce, hotels, banks, media, public corporations and government bodies.
Eric is a trainer in economics and in management, registered at the Mauritius Qualifications Authority (MQA). He has lectured on public economics at the University of Mauritius and conducted many training courses on management.
Eric has become a respected business economist and an opinion leader in Mauritius. Since 1996, he comments on public policy issues in the local newspapers through more than 300 opinion pieces written in both English and French. He is regularly quoted in the local media and he participates in televised and radio debates live among other professionals. He presents talks and conferences to academic and business audiences in Mauritius and abroad. He is the author of a local best-seller book Mieux comprendre l’économie (2005) and of a second book A contre-courant. Essais sur l’Economie mauricienne (2011).
His contribution to the advancement of economic ideas at the national level is widely recognised. In that respect, the Mauritian Institute of Management has awarded him the MIM Honorary Fellow in March 2011.
Eric is a lifetime member of Junior Chamber International (JCI), an international nonprofit organization of young leaders having a general consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council. He served JCI Mauritius as national president in 2004. He is involved in community development and has organised and chaired nearly 80 business forums with the participation of businessmen, civil servants and opinion leaders, and receiving wide media coverage. Eric won the International Chamber of Commerce Business Award for these forums at the 2001 JCI World Congress, in recognition of a project best promoting the principle of free enterprise.
